FAQ

Got a question? No problem. We're happy to answer. Here are the questions that we get most often from students and parents checking out our program:

General

What services does Kapeesh offer?

Your monthly subscription includes all this: unlimited access to live tutors on chat, a dedicated academic coach to keep you on track, custom study plans for whatever math or science topics you want to learn, lesson content (videos/recipes/class notes/practice sets), school assignment & progress tracking, and live office hours.

Who is Kapeesh for?

Anyone who wants to kick butt and be a rockstar at STEM so they can get better grades, breeze through homework and tests, sleep better at night, and have colleges beg for their applications. Our members range from 6th graders all the way to college seniors looking to stand out from the crowd.

Couldn’t I just use Khan Academy or watch YouTube videos?

Sure, they’re great resources. We use them too. But if you’re looking for help on a particular problem or concept, do you really want to go down that rabbit hole? When you get stuck, you don’t want to watch long videos about high level concepts. You want somebody to hand-hold you through the exact problem you’re struggling with, right? That’s what we do.

How about just getting a regular tutor instead?

Sure, there are lots of great tutors out there, and a ton of services that will help you find some. But realize that tutors can be hit-or-miss. You might find one that you totally gel with, has years of experience teaching, knows precisely what concepts and problems students get tripped up on, and has developed shortcuts and frameworks to save you from ruin. But then again, you might not. It’s a bit of a crapshoot. Also, they’re reeeaaallly expensive! At $50-$100 an hour, costs add up quickly.

Is there research that supports Kapeesh’s methodology?

Yes! There is a ton of research that supports how we help students: John B. Carroll’s research on the “Model of School Learning”, 1-on-1 tutoring  - Bloom’s 2-sigma research, Conversational learning - Socratic approach, and Student motivation - Learner theory.

Tutors-on-chat

How does Tutors-on-chat work?

We believe that what you need to understand complex topics in math and science is a real live person to show you how to do the problems. Not figure out proofs. Not derive equations. But actually solve homework and test questions and explain the process step-by-step. That’s what we built. An always-on chat-based homework help service with a team of human experts standing by to provide help for math and science questions. Just send us a pic of the homework question you're stuck on. One of our tutors will hop right on chat to help out.

Who are your tutors?

Our tutors are STEM graduates (Bachelor’s, Master’s or PhD’s in math, science or engineering) with 5+ years of tutoring in-person or online. We have a strict vetting and testing process for onboarding tutors prior to letting them teach on our platform.

Is there a limit to the number of questions I can ask?

No, there’s no limit. Ask as many questions as you want.

Aren’t you just giving the homework answer?

Heck no! We don’t just provide the answer. That would be cheating, and would totally defeat the purpose of learning. We provide detailed explanations of the concept behind the homework question, and will help walk you through the logic to arrive at the right answer. If we just gave you the answer, we’d be doing you a huge disservice, and your parents would be mad at us. ☹️

What are your chat support hours?

Our full team of tutors is available to provide real-time support during the hours of 12pm PST to 12am PST, Monday through Saturday. A smaller tutoring team is available outside those hours to help you. However, immediate help is not guaranteed outside the normal business hours, and you might have to wait a little while.

Personal coach

How does the coach service work?

You get a dedicated accountability mentor who works with you on chat to keep your learning on track when your teachers and parents can’t. Your Coach crafts a custom study plan based on where you need help, tracks your homework & tests, sends you resources to study, drills you with practice sets, charts your progress, and checks in daily. Your Coach is like a personal trainer for all your math and science classes.

What are custom study plans?

You tell your Coach what you want to learn. Maybe it’s what your teacher is covering in school right now. Or you’re prepping for a test on that topic. Or just need to learn it so you can work out the homework problems. Your Coach will create a study plan that has a daily checklist (in a particular order) of the right videos, articles, lessons, “recipes”, and practice sets for you to complete. It’s customized just for you, based on what you already know and areas you need help in.

How will “recipes" and flowcharts help me?

Our experience shows that learning math and science principles using frameworks and recipes builds deep comprehension and consistent STEM skills that translate into higher letter grades. They help you beat the learning curve in complex topics, and stop you from getting lost just because your teacher skipped some important fundamentals. They also save you tons of study time by helping you figure out what the critical few things are that matter on tests, and ignore the fluff.

What are Office Hours?

You know how your teachers and professors set aside time to hang out with their students to answer questions about stuff you didn’t quite “get” in class? It’s the same thing here too. Every day, we hold open Office Hours where we invite you to join us in a live webinar-style online classroom to get all your questions answered. Bring us whatever test or homework problems you’re stuck on. We’ll walk you through the exact steps to setup and solve that problem, and get you unstuck in a jiffy!

What if I miss an office hours session?

No worries. There are a number of options to choose from in case you don’t get a turn to ask a question or miss a session entirely:
1. Just attend the next one. We hold open office hours every weekday.
2. Catch the recording. We can make that available to you upon request.
3. Ask your question via our chat-based homework help service.

Pricing

Why is this not free?

We would love to help students for free, but we need to charge for our service because our tutors and coaches are real, live people who spend their time helping you with problems, making sure your work is really done, and keep you on track. If we didn't charge money, we wouldn't be able to hire them or sustain this in the long run.

Do you have a money-back guarantee?

Yup! Try Kapeesh for 6 months, put in the work, ask your tutor questions, and follow the coach’s advice. If you still don’t see an improvement in grades and your mind’s not blown by how helpful we are, just let us know. We’ll happily refund your money. That’s how confident we are that this works.

Do you have a family discount?

Yes, we do have a family subscription plan. Send us an email at help@kapeesh.io to add a family member at a discounted rate.

How do I sign up?

Click on the Get an invite button to get on our priority waitlist with just your name and email address (optional - you can invite friends with your link to move up the list). As soon as a spot opens up, we’ll send you an invite. If you decide to sign up at that time, we'll help you through the process.

When will this service be available?

We’re hard at work preparing all the frameworks, videos, tools, and a million other things that need to be perfected so we can help you make a serious dent in your GPA. We expect to launch the service on September 1, 2020. In the meantime, we’re opening it up for early customers at very special, heavily discounted pre-launch prices. These discounts will only be available for a short time, as we expect to raise prices significantly when we fully launch the service.
